Thus, only the employee with the right kind of knowledge is desired, which, of course, has made hiring even more challenging. Needless to say, a certified safety professional is considered to be a better candidate during interviews.

First things first, you need to have a clear vision about the skills you want to see in your employee. On the whole, you should look for the following qualities while assessing the value and competence of a candidate:

  • Knowledge:

The candidate’s education holds the first key to his proficiency. If he has acquired theoretical knowledge in a field that conforms to the job role, then he is definitely the employee you are looking for. This consideration is very helpful while evaluating his skills.

  • Experience:

A candidate, who has gathered practical knowledge in the concerned field, should obviously be pointed out as the preference. The more stringent the needs of the designation, the more battle-tested he should be. Work experience, in fact, is one aspect which should not be neglected at all during a potential employee’s evaluation.

  • Accreditation:

This is the final and the most vital of all the qualities. See that the certified safety professional sitting for the interview holds the accreditation from an industry-recognised board, institution, or organisation. Only the candidate, who has undergone a professional training program and passed the relevant examination with honesty, should be considered for employment.

His certification is a proof that he is committed to his field of work, and would be of worth to the hiring organisation. He would also be an asset to the entire business, and a competent person to handle health and safety matters with efficiency.
